A doctor in his last year of service will not be transfered to a new posting except on request, according to Delhi Government’s new guidelines for transfer of its medical staff.

Transfers would normally be made once in five years and if both the husbands and wife are in Delhi health service, attempts will be made to post them at the same or nearby place.

‘In order to ensure manpower development and to equip them to handle senior assignments, all the doctors will be suitably rotated among various assignments both clinical and administrative,’ as per the guidelines for transfer and posting of specialists (non-teaching) and general duty medical officers in Delhi health services (allopathy) formed by the health department.

According to the guidelines, initial appointments of specialists (non-teaching) would be in peripheral hospitals having a bed strenght upto 250, then move to non peripheral hospitals having upto 250 beds and then into tertiary care centres having more than 250 beds.
