New Delhi:

A youth sustained serious injuries after being shot at thrice by two men when he protested against the disturbance created by loud cracking sounds coming out of their motorcycle in Taimoor Nagar of south Delhi.

Confirming the incident, DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said that one of the suspects has been arrested and a manhunt has been launched to nab the other. A case of attempt to murder (IPC section 307) and under Arms Act has been registered against the accused.

The incident occurred after midnight on Sunday when Abdul Rahman (22) was walking outside his house after dinner. At 12.35am, Rahman saw the two men coming on a black Bullet motorcycle (DL 4SCE 7705).

The men were trying to pass through the narrow lane and the loud cracking sound made by the bike’s exhaust woke up the children in the nearby houses. The rider continued to accelerate the bike thereby creating more noise. Rahman confronted the duo and told them to look for an alternate way, which irked them.

An argument ensued after which the men, one of them later identified as Sikandar, slapped Rahman twice. The situation snowballed into a fight and one of the bikers pulled out a gun and hit Rahman on his head with its butt. The youth fell on the road and blood started coming out of his forehead. One of the bikers then aimed the gun at Rahman and fired thrice at him, but missed.

Hearing the gunshots, the neighbours came out of their houses. The bikers panicked and ran away leaving behind their two-wheeler. Rahman was taken to a nearby hospital with head injuries. He is currently in a stable condition. The hospital staff informed police and an FIR was registered. The crime team found three empty cartridges, bearing ‘KF 7.65’ on the shell, from the spot.

Sikandar was arrested after being identified with the help of the motorcycle’s registration number. CCTV footage of the area is being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events. The accused is being questioned to get details about his associate. The gun used in the crime was found to be obtained illegally.
