Following the Supreme Court‘s ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali, the district administration imposed section 144 in Gurugram from today. On Monday, the apex court ordered that sale of firecrackers will not be allowed in National Capital Territory(NCT) till November 1.The order issued by deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh says that “we have the direct evidence of deterioration of air quality at alarming levels, which happens every year. The air quality deteriorates abysmally and alarmingly and the city chokes thereby. It leads to closing the schools and the authorities are compelled to take various measures on emergent basis, when faced with “health emergency” situation”.

The prohibition is imposed as a measure of precaution and peaceful celebration of Diwali, says the order.

Notably, the sub-divisional magistrates (SDM) will not issue permissions for setting up temporary retail stalls for sale of crackers this year. Also, the team under the SDMs will be supported by joint commissioners from Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, secretary of Municipal Committee in urban areas and block development and Panchayat Officers in rural areas.
