A 30-year-old placement agency owner was arrested for murdering a 16-year-old girl from Jharkhand for demanding her salary of three years. The man had chopped the girl’s body, packed it in two bags and dumped it in a drain on May 4.
The accused, Manjeet Karketa, is a native of Jharkhand and had been running the placement agency from a rented room in Nangloi of outer Delhi, additional DCP (outer) Rajender Singh Sagar said.
After discovering the body, policemen scanned CCTV footage from the area. The tenants living in the vicinity were questioned. The cops found Kakreta missing and his room locked. They soon came to know that Karketa was hiding in his village in Gumla district of Jharkhand. A team led by inspector Sukhbir Malik conducted a raid and arrested him.
During interrogation, Karketa confessed to having killed Soni Kumari (16). He told cops that he didn’t have necessary papers for running the placement agency. He lured girls from Jharkhand promising them good jobs in Delhi.
Kumari was brought to Delhi after her father died, leaving her family without a breadwinner. Karketa got her hired as a domestic help, but never gave her the salary paid by the family. After three years, the girl ran away from the house and went to Karketa. She demanded her money as she wanted to be with her mother. However, the man and his aides decided to kill her.
On the night of May 4, Karketa and his aides, Sahu and Gauri, called Kumari to their room and attacked her with a butcher’s knife. They hacked the girl into pieces and packed the body in two bags. They walked three kilometres and threw the body in the drain in Mianwali Nagar.
The accused is being interrogated to know the whereabouts of his aides. A probe is on to ascertain how many minor girls were brought from Jharkhand to Delhi by the accused.
