A month ago, Pradeep Kumar, an MNC employee, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in a critical condition after being shot at by his abductors. On Thursday, the day he was released from the hospital, Crime Branch managed to bust the gang that had kidnapped and robbed him. The gang was found to having committed six such crimes in the past one month.
Kumar was abducted after boarding a shared cab at IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon. The criminals snatched his belongings and then took him to a house in south Delhi from where they called his uncle and demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000. They asked Kumar’s family members to hand over the money at a location in south Delhi. However, despite receiving the money, the men shot him in the thigh and dumped him by the roadside near Bhondsi Jail in Gurgaon. He was soon found lying in a pool of blood and admitted to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment.
Police have seized the car used by the criminals to offer rides to their targets. Joint commissioner (crime) Alok Kumar said the kingpin, Amit Rana, and a gang member, Ajay, were caught near Sector 30 of Rohini where they had gone to refuel their car. “A team led by DCP Rajesh Deo was tracking the gang for some time. A cache of arms has also been seized from them,” Kumar added.
Rana told cops that his gang targeted MNC employees while they would be returning from their offices to upscale colonies in south Delhi. During the peak hours, Rana, Ajay and two other associates who offer a ride to the executives from Gurgaon to Nehru Place for Rs 10. Rana would drive the vehicle while the other three would pose as customers.
